Curt Hanson was born in Iowa and raised on a Kossuth County farm near Swea City. He has been a resident of Fairfield for 50 years. He has a BA from the University of Northern Iowa and an MA from the University of Iowa.
Curt serves on the House Agriculture, Education, Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committees, as well as the Education Appropriations Subcommittee. He is the Ranking Member on the Natural Resources Committee.
Curt has been married for 47 years to Diane, a retired family and consumer science teacher. They have two grown children and five grandchildren.
Curt was a driver education teacher at Fairfield High School for 43 years. As a driver education teacher, Curt received the Fairfield Jaycee Outstanding Young Education Award, was named the Fairfield Teacher of the Year, and was named runner-up for the National Driver Education Teacher of the Year. He is also an amateur radio operator and has been a private pilot.
Curt is a former president of the Iowa Association of Safety Education, and was their business manager for many years. He is a former president of the Fairfield Education Association and he is a life member of the National Education Association and the Iowa State Education Association. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Fairfield Kiwanis, and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce. For nearly 50 years he has been active in local and state political events and has served on many area and district committees.
Curt’s top priorities include the creation and preservation of jobs that support middle class families, equal access to quality and affordable education, protection of the young and old and the conservation and protection of our air, soil and water resources.
